Which essential oils do I use during my massage treatments?
I am a holistic massage therapist living and working near Marbella in Spain. Since 2007 I have been working internationally from my clinic in Antigua but also on superyachts and in some very glamorous villas! Work is now from my humble, purpose built ‘Lavender Lodge’ massage studio just 100 yards from my front door!
Four years ago, I met the wonderful Natasha Ravenello in Palma, Mallorca over a breakfast meeting. She introduced me to the incredible dōTERRA essential oils. After just one meeting, sampling the oils, I was hooked. We discovered many ways I could incorporate these oils in my massage practice. The main reason I wanted to use them was due to the quality of the oils and they were 100% pure. Within the month, I bought a large business kit and hey presto! Little did I know from the minute I started using them how they would change my life and the lives of all those around me forever!
I set up the petal diffuser in my studio. Initially using the peaceful blend Serenity, a calm, relaxing aroma ideal for the majority of my clients. In addition, I simply added a few drops of Lavender to my massage oil. My carrier oil is grapeseed oil as it’s smooth and doesn’t stain clothing or towels.
I was quite happy using just these two and it must have been at least three months before I started to experiment with other oils. As my confidence increased, I created different blends in the home and tested their aromas and responses with the family. In time I incorporated new oils to my client’s massage experience.
The next oil blend I started using was the brilliant Deep Blue cream! A breakthrough discovery for anyone suffering with muscle aches, tension, inflammation and joint pain. It is a miracle cream in my opinion. I treat many (if not all) clients suffering with some or all of the above physical complaints with Deep Blue and throughout my treatments. Many of my massage clients have bought tubes of Deep Blue.
I had no initial plans on working with dōTERRA as a business. The more I shared my experiences, the more my clients were asking for them, so I thought why not let’s give it a try. It compliments my work, so I decided to become a Wellness Advocate and have never looked back. I now give talks on oils and am happy to meet with anyone to share my love and passion for these pure therapeutic essential oils.
I have a few favourites that I use during a massage. Using Lemongrass in the diffuser sets a wonderful Asian feel of holidays and sunshine. I like Onguard and Wild Orange during the winter months. As the seasons change it not only protects me from clients with seasonal illnesses, but the aroma reminds me of Christmas and the festive period. Onguard is a blend of Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Leaf, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Leaf and Rosemary Leaf/Flower. I still use Serenity if I know a client is coming feeling stressed needing energy work and realignment.
In my carrier oil, I usually use oils of the heart or oils for relaxation. Lavender, Serenity, Whisper, Geranium, Ylang Ylang and any other combination that comes to me naturally before the client arrives. The floral aromas seem to be very popular. I also put one drop of either Lavender or Wild Orange on the face cloth so that clients can enjoy the magical aromas whilst experiencing a massage.
dōTERRA essential oils have been a blessing to me and my family. They have helped me manage my emotions and to let go of past traumas and have helped my husband through depression. The oils comfort and aid my daughter at night and when she has cuts, aches and pains. Finally, I have used them extensively on our animals and with the horses at the stables next door to our home. Thank you, Natasha, for the introduction and if you would like to know more about massaging and essential oils, please contact me firstname.lastname@example.org.
