Our soaps are handmade using the traditional cold process technique. This way of making soaps dates back for many centuries. The first recorded instance being in the days of the ancient Babylonians back in 2800BC. The Babylonians made their soap by combining animal fats (acid) and fire ash (alkali).
Today we use vegetable oils and butters combined with lye (sodium hydroxide). We then scent our soap with 100% pure grade therapeutic essential oils, and exfoliants of oats or rosemary from the garden. Once combined the soap is poured into moulds and left to do its magic for 24 hours. The blocks of soap are then cut and left to cure for a few more weeks to complete the saponification process.
In order to prolong the life of your soap we recommend buying one of our two-part soap dishes. These soap dishes are perfect for our soap as the draining holes ensure that your soap is not sitting in liquid and becoming soggy. Our soaps contain natural glycerine which is lovely for the skin but does attract water. In order to further prolong the life and scent of the soap we recommend that you keep the soap out of direct sunlight.
If you do not have the space for a soap dish, then one of our beautiful soap bags might be the answer. Our soaps perfectly fit our made to measure soap bags. Hang them in the shower or off the taps. The crocheted soap bags are made from 100% cotton Aran Yarn. This natural eco-friendly re-usable cotton is kind to the environment and to the skin. Our bags can be machine washed at a cool 40 degrees but hang them to dry as they do not like the tumble dryer.
